Plymouth to Daka

The idea: Travel from England to Africa in an old banger, and get back again

Unofficially spoken of as 'The Ultimate Banger Challenge', another motley collection of cars costing less than £100 will be assembled to drive over 3,000 miles from the South coast of Great Britain to the West coast of Africa. On this run, the unloved Russian LADA car is the ultimate choice of vehicle. Cheap, simple and tough, no Lada has every failed to complete the Challenge.

Julian Nowill has thrown down the gauntlet to those of us with budgets too limited to tackle the great Paris / Dakar Rally. The Plymouth / Dakar Challenge has a few rules that will help to ensure that team budgets do not run too much a risk of financial peril.
The Challenge is to simply drive the route from Plymouth to Dakar (on a limited budget) with the principle aim of helping some Charitable causes in Senegal and The Gambia.
After the success of the inaugural event at the start of 2003, interest in The Challenge has grown enormously such that three groups of around 40 cars took part in the second Challenge in 2004 and over 200 Teams participated in PBC05.
The fourth Challenge, PBC06, is now gathering pace, and three groups should leave the UK in December 2005, with a fourth Group leaving in February 2006.

If all goes well for the teams, they should complete the Challenge within 3 weeks of their departure.
